Life Sketch of Anugrah Narayan Sinha
Dr. Anugrah Narayan Sinha was born on 18th June, 1887. His child hood name was Ugral Singh. Later on , the name Anugrah was given by his teacher in Gaya Zila School. “ Coming events cast their shadows before “ is fully exemplified by the life of Anugrah Babu. From early child-hood he had harmonious blend of intelligence leadership qualities. He got scholarship in the middle school for his excellent performance and was admitted to Gaya Zila School. He was elected student representative of Gaya District. After securing first class in high school examination he was admitted to Patna college in 1908.
In the year 1912 he obtained M.A. ( History) degree from Calcutta University.Later on in 1915, he was declared successful in B.L He was appointed as lecturer of history in T.N.B College Bhagalpur. In 1916 he left the job and started practicing in patna High court. He joined Mahatma Gandhi in champaran (Bihar) and became official in charge there He participated in the freedom struggle and became staunch supporter of Bapu and Dr. Rajendra Prasad. In 1928 he became president of Bihar Congress committee in 1931, he was sentenced to rigorous imprisonment for hoisting national flag. In 1933 he was elected to central assembly and in 1936 to Bihar Legislative Assembly. In 1937 he became Finance Minister of Bihar. He played pivotal role in organizing congress “seva dal”. In 1942, he was again arrested and finally released in 1945. In 1947, when India became independent he again became Finance Minister and served people of Bihar. In the same year ( 1947) he was conferred on Doctorate Degree by Patna University. The great son of the soil took his last breathe on July 5, 1957.
